Academy of Tribes

People and teams cannot be reduced to types.

Academy of Tribes maps human complexity honestly, with rigorous mathematics, psychology, and practice. The map is not the territory.

Methodology

How the mapping works

Four steps, with more detail on the method taught in the open through Paideia.

1

Established instruments

Each member completes established psychometric instruments with published research behind them, the BFI-2 (the Big Five) being one of them.

2

Private by design

Individual results stay private to each member; that is a design commitment. The map only ever uses the geometry between people: every profile placed as coordinates in one shared landscape of twenty-four trait dimensions.

3

The shape of the team

Then we ask what shape the team makes. Topology (from the Greek τόπος, "place"), the mathematics of shape, surfaces three things: where minds cluster, where thin bridges carry the translation between them, and where the landscape sits empty.

4

Honest limits

Before a shape is shown, it is stress-tested: the map is redrawn thousands of times to see whether the same structure returns, and the page says plainly when a finding is noise. What survives starts a conversation. It never makes decisions about people.

Try the map

A fictional nine-member team: two groups of minds, joined by a single bridge. Click a member to see what the structure does without them. Then try adding a profile.

Gold ring: the critical positionDashed: a removed member, click to restoreLines: minds near enough in trait space to connect

9 members · one connected map · 1 critical position · resilience 0.89

The gold-ringed position holds the map together. If that member leaves, the groups disconnect.

A simplified illustration with fictional data. The full pipeline works in twenty-four dimensions and verifies every shape before showing it.

About

Connecting tribes of knowledge

Academy of Tribes maps the hidden structure of leadership teams. Where most personality testing tells you what individuals are like, we show how a team’s minds actually combine: where coverage is strong, where the blind spots are, who holds the team together, and where the configuration itself (not the people) concentrates the risk worth examining.

That structural view matters most when the stakes are high: team composition, post-merger integration, leadership succession: any moment where the actual shape of a team matters more than another competency framework.

Built and run from Oslo by Eric Andreas Helsem Schaumburg, drawing on a decade across psychology, sustainability strategy, and organizational systems work.
